Kalima Resort and Spa Phuket is continually working to improve the impact we have on people and places.
We are committed to reducing our greenhouse gas emissions and to protecting and supporting biodiversity. The followings are our success in 2023 which will be the baselines for our commitments in 2024.
Solar cell installation on the rooftop of our Building 8, has completed and operated in February 2024. It had produced 13,597.5 kWh in February and 14,068.7 kWh in March 2024.
Water saving campaign: we had installed the signage in all guest’s rooms to run this campaign.
Regularly check all water meters and water pipelines for any case of leaking and require urgent maintenance.
Use recycling water to watering all the plants around the resort, and wash the pavement.
Installed automatic water tabs in all public toilets. The next project is installation in all guest’s rooms within 2024.
Installed water meter in the main building and we plan to install for all building by end of 2024.
Replaced plastic bottle of drinking water by glass bottle for partly guest’s rooms in 2023. We have reduced 140,620 plastic bottles by the end of 2023. We will replace for all guest’s rooms by the end of 2024.
Installed hand dryer in all public toilets to reduce the hand tissue papers.
Replaced plastic laundry bag in all guest’s room with homemade cloth laundry bag (reusable).
Separated recycling wastes (tin can, plastic bottle, paper, glass bottles, used cooking oil) and sell to outside factory. This revenue will use using for staff fund (birthday party, staff sport day).
Produce our own bio-extracts for using in the resort.
Recycling spoiled linens for the rags and using within the resort.
Reuse papers for all offices.
Introduce Handi Go (hotel application) for all guest to use during their stay. This reduced printing paper for menu, hotel directory, and promotion.
Replace plastic mini bottles for shampoo, conditioner, and body lotion with ceramic pump bottles. This reduced plastic mini bottles for 127,085 pieces at the end of 2023.
Collect aluminum pull-tabs from all outlets and staff for donating to Wachira Phuket Hospital for making prosthetic legs.
Set air conditioning temperature in all guest’s rooms and office at 26’C.
Preventive maintenance for all air conditioning units (CDU and FCU) twice a year.
Cleaning and checking all air conditioning (filter air check) every 3 months.
Replaced all light bulbs with LED (electricity saving module).
Turn off air conditionings in the office during the morning and lunch time.
Installed motion sensors for wardrobe’s light in all guest’s rooms.
Replaced in room single-use batter torches with rechargeable battery.
Installed sensor on the balcony door for all guest’s rooms to automatically turn off the air conditioning when guest leave the door opening.
Organizing outdoor activities for guests to participate and reducing the electricity consumption in the rooms.
Installed all electrical appliances with the energy saving modules.
Installed the timer for all landscaping lights.
Installed the solar power street lights.
Received the Green Health Hotel that issued by the Department of Health.
Received the Green Hotel: Gold level that issued by the Department of Climate Change and Environment.
As part of that commitment, in 2024 we set ourselves a target of reducing our greenhouse gas emissions from energy by 3% of consumption compare to 2023, water by 5% consumption compare to 2023, and waste by 3% compare to 2023.
We know that there is more work for us to do and in 2024 we are implementing a number of new
initiatives throughout our operation to help us achieve our goals. We encourage our valued guests,
staff and visitors to support us by following the reminders we have provided throughout the hotel about
saving water and energy, as well as minimising waste. Furthermore, we will increase the procurement with local suppliers in 2024 for reducing the greenhouse gas emission in Phuket.
We are proud of the donation of unused linens to Soi Dog Foundation in 2023. This plays an important role in supporting stray and abused animals in our community. We will continue this project and also aim to invite our guests to participate the donation in 2024 onward.
Every year our focus will be on supporting a community project to participate Thailand Children’s Day which falls on every 2nd Saturday of January. We aim to provide foods, drinks, and scholarship for those young children at Kalim Primary School, Ban Sai Nam Yen Primary School, and Phuket Special Aid School (disabled children). Kalima Resort and Spa Phuket is committed to respecting and protecting human rights. We believe that everyone should be treated fairly and with respect. As part of this commitment, we regularly train our staff about preventing discrimination. We are also committed to safeguarding the welfare of children and young people. We have a policy of always reporting suspected instances of child exploitation and abuse to the police. As local tradition and culture are also important for sustainability tourism, we trust that participate in the festivities such as Phuket Vegetarian Festival and Phuket Sea Turtle Conservation Day will assist Phuket to become one of the sustainability tourism destination for all global tourists. We aim to join these festivals as our annual plan.
